Regents Daily News:
July 16, 2013

Welcome to Regents, Mrs. Nelson

We were all surprised at the end of the school year with the wonderful news that our beloved 6th grade teacher, Kara Bertke, is taking an extended leave of absence to have a baby. And we are all so excited for the Bertke family (and pulling for her to have a little girl!). What a blessing it is when the Lord gives the gift of a child.

Mrs. Bertke leaves big shoes to fill, though. We are excited to announce that the 6th grade teaching duties will be shared by Mr. Vermillion and our own Mrs. Nicole Alders. Mr. Vermillion and Mrs. Alders are veteran teachers who will have a fantastic year with our new crop of 6th graders.

Mrs. Bertke also served as our ECHO Program Coordinator. The ECHO Program is our school’s pull-out program that aims to help struggling students. ECHO stands for Encouraging, Compassionate Help On-Site, and Mrs. Bertke pioneered it last year, helping a number of students with a variety of needs for extra classroom help.

Now the Regents Board and Administration are very glad to announce that we have a new ECHO Program Coordinator on our staff, Mrs. Kaki Nelson. Mrs. Nelson is a reading specialist and classroom teacher who recently retired from the Nacogdoches school system. She brings a compassionate heart and excellent skills in helping and mentoring students. We look forward to getting to know her better and also to seeing her in action, helping Regents students to succeed in the classroom.

Welcome to the Regents family, Mrs. Nelson!
