Re-Living History by Going for a Dip
The fifth graders have been studying the American colonial period. Their literature has focused on this area — readings have included The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Johnny Tremain, and Carry on, Mr. Bowditch. Last week, in the spirit of “re-living” early American colonial history, they made candles the old-fashioned way — dipping wicks into hot wax. Led by their teacher, Miss Ruth Hoffmann, their hands-on work supplemented the reading they have been doing and provided a fun class project.
Fifth graders picture below include Isaiah Bertke, Lindley Bryant, Grace DeKerlegand, Avery Griner, Jake Hill, Carley Johnson, and Ethan Milliken. (Andria Sowell is also a 5th-grade class member but is not pictured.)
