Stephen Crescenzo Wins Golf State Championship as a Sophomore

Regents Academy proudly announces its first ever Golf State Champion in school history! Stephen competed against 81 other high school golfers in the TAPPS 1A Golf State Championship and took home the title with a strong aggregate score of +3 (36 holes of golf) amidst adverse weather conditions on both days.

In round 1, the players battled high winds all day from 25 – 30 mph and Stephen shot a remarkable -4 under par (68) to take the lead by 3 shots. Round 2 presented even tougher conditions with a downpour through the first 13 holes as the high winds continued; the rain finally let up on the last 5 holes of the back 9 and Stephen finished out his final 9 holes at even par, never relinquished the lead, and secured the victory by a convincing 4 strokes.

Stephen Crescenzo 2024 Texas TAPPS 1A Golf State ChampionAfter earning All-State honors and coming in 2nd place as a freshman and placing 7th in his first national tournament last year, Stephen was determined to come away with the championship this year. When asked about his performance, Stephen noted, “I am thankful to the Lord to win this and for being able to represent Regents. It was a blessing to be out there competing, I love it and had a lot of fun. It’s good to know that there are two more opportunities I have to potentially win the state title again. Overall, I pray that people see Christ in how I handle myself on and off the course. It’s a daily process to get better and grow in all aspects of life.”

Additionally, Stephen earned First Team All-District in Basketball for Regents Academy, leading his team in rebounds and steals while being second in scoring. Regents’ Athletic Director, Mr. Caleb Homer, states “At Regents we make it a point to put Christ at the center of everything we do. Our athletes are no exception. Stephen, in all his success on the golf course, never fails to meet that expectation. He’s quick to give God the glory in all competitive arenas. I’m excited to continue watching him grow and remain confident he will represent Nacogdoches, Regents Academy, himself, and Christ well as a steward of the Gospel.”

To cap his spring golf season, Stephen has been invited to play for Team Texas to compete against Team Oklahoma coming up next weekend in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The Red River Cup is a small field selection based on several factors including tournament finishes in Texas Junior Golf Tour events and national junior rankings. Stephen is one of only 32 high school boys (ages 15 – 18) selected to compete. While a young sophomore at just 15 years old, he continues to forge ahead and thrives on competing against upperclassmen and playing in the strongest fields possible.

Congratulations to Stephen for representing Regents Academy as a young man of faith and a proven competitor! May God continue to pour out His blessings on the Regents community, its staff and students, to help sharpen and raise up leaders to do His will.
