Classical Mythology

Classical mythology plays a major role in our students’ education. In the past month, third and tenth grades’ respective studies on the Trojan War happened to coincide! To elaborate on the third graders’ readings from Black Ships Before Troy, a retelling of the Iliad by Rosemary Sutcliff, the tenth graders were asked to dramatize major events from their readings of Homer’s Iliad and additional mythology. From designing costumes and props to breaking down epic poetry into condensed scripts, the tenth graders worked for three weeks to create a retelling as clever as the wooden – or cardboard – horse itself.
