Grateful

In this space each week I offer reflections about various subjects that relate to the mission of Regents Academy and that (I hope) inform and encourage you, as a Regents parent.

This week as I considered a topic to write about, my thoughts found their way again and again to gratitude. Not others’ gratitude, but my own. I am making my way through my first year as headmaster at Regents Academy, and when I step back and mull over this work, I find so much for which to be thankful.

I am thankful for our school’s founders and board members – pioneers, risk-takers, faithful soldiers all – who have made such sacrifices to build up this ministry from its earliest days until today.

I am thankful for the teachers and staff of our school who every day work so honorably and diligently and devotedly to make Regents Academy what it is.

I am thankful for Regents students, who are the brightest, most joyful, most industrious, and most entertaining students in East Texas. (And they are so entertaining: this week a KPrep student told me that when I married my wife, “I made a girl Bryant!”).

I am thankful for my wife and children, who have made Regents their home and have so faithfully supported me.

I am thankful for the people in my life who have made me what I am today: teachers, pastors, and friends, as well as my parents and family.I am thankful for the difficult and perplexing seasons of my life; they have seasoned me and been an instrument in the Lord’s hands to shape me into who I am today.

I suppose I could go on. But I have to close by saying that I am most thankful to the Triune God for the amazing ways He has blessed me and my family by bringing me to Nacogdoches and to Regents Academy, by giving me a sound mind and body, by giving me good friends with a common desire to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ. “I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people” (Psalm 35:18).

I hope you join me in meditating on all that you have to be thankful for. It is a humbling and inspiring exercise, one that should not be relegated to late November or merely to one hour a week.

Make us truly grateful, Lord!
