The Nacogdoches Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently announced their area winners for this year’s American History essay contest and Junior American Citizens (JAC) banner contest. The theme for both contests this year focused on the centennial celebration of the creation of the National Parks Service. Mrs. Lori Cunyus’s fifth grade class participated in this year’s JAC banner contest, and the team of Lilly Anderson, Cate Baker, Mary Kate Hill and Kaitlyn McKenna won first place in our area. Additionally, Mrs. Cunyus’s class participated in the American History essay contest, and Tatum Smith placed second for her essay, and Cate Baker won first place for her essay in the fifth grade division for our area.
